activates the archival exhibition Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory, on view at Princeton University’s Milberg Gallery from February 22nd, 2023 through June 30th, 2023. Curated by Princeton  University African American Studies and English Professor Autumn Womack and a team of scholars and researchers, the exhibition spotlights over 90 unique items from the Toni Morrison Papers, housed at Princeton Department of Special Collections. From handwritten revisions to canonical works like The Bluest Eye to unpublished short stories to correspondence with friends and colleagues, the exhibit excavates new dimensions of Morrison’s writerly practice and creative life while inviting us to rethink the pivotal place of the archive and archiving within Morrison’s oeuvre. Rather than offer either a sweeping overview of her career or an in-depth look at her best-known works, this exhibit follows the route mapped by the collection itself as it illuminates previously unknown aspects of Morrison’s life and practice and reveals new ways of understanding seemingly familiar texts and events.
